On our trip to Ireland, eight of us rented two cars through CarRentals.co.uk. Aside from navigating in an unfamiliar place, challenges included some narrow roads, driving on the left side, and getting used to roundabouts. Our first stop was Kilkenny, where we took a walking tour. Next was the Rock of Cashel, the ruins of a fortress and cathedral. Afterward, we went to Dingle Peninsula, the spectacular Cliffs of Moher, and the Burren. We then drove to Galway and ended our tour in Dublin. At each stop along the way, we usually dined in a pub with live music.
Key Takeaways:
- Ireland is one of the most beautiful countries making a road trip with a rented vehicle an experience of a lifetime.
- Make sure that you either come prepared with cell service or you rent a car with international calling in case you get in trouble.
- You might want to be prepared as many rental cars in Europe require stick shift driving. This is in addition to having to drive on the left side of the road.
“Yes, some of the roads get narrow and crooked. You can drive across the whole island in a day and you can drive old country roads. Ireland will be a memorable road trip.”
