July 27, 2020 By Nathaniel William Leave a Comment

The city of Antigua, Guatemala is filled with culture and history, making it a great tourist destination. The Baroque architecture gives the city a quaint feel, and you can learn much of the country’s history from the Spanish Colonial Museum. The best time of the year to visit Antigua is during the late winter or early spring since the temperatures are moderate. When your there, don’t miss out on the stunning views from the Cerro de la Cruz or the Palace of the General!

Key Takeaways:

  • It’s about a 30-minute hike up the Cerro de la Cruz to see a spectacular view of Antigua.
  • Antigua has nearly 2,000 registered churches, including some dating back to the 18th century.
  • Visit the Choco Museo to see how chocolate is made, and stop by one of the local chocolate shops.

“Founded in 1524, earthquakes and an avalanche buried Antigua until 1542. After the city got restored, it quickly became a flourishing place. Unfortunately, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and flooding caused serious damage to Antigua in the late 18th century.”
